Pervious concrete is an interesting pavement option that can be used in more situation than just a parking lot. Other related terms used for pervious concrete are: porous concrete, no-fines concrete, permeable concrete, gap-graded concrete, and enhanced-porosity concrete. The functionality of pervious concrete is much as it sounds. When used correctly, stormwater is able to seep into the ground under the pervious concrete. This can be beneficial to recharging ground water and reducing stormwater runoff. Land management planning can benefit from this technology by reexamining sizing of retention ponds, swales and other traditional stormwater management technology.
Here are a couple of videos of pervious concrete in action.
