Energy savings from your washer and dryer can be achieved with these tips:

Clothes Washer

  • Wash clothes in cold water instead of warm or hot, and if that cannot be done then set the rinse to cold water.
  • A full laundry load is the most energy efficient so try to use a full load.

Clothes Dryer

  • When loading your clothes dryer, do not overload it.
  • Check the settings on your dry for a cool down cycle.  This is where no heat is supplied during the last few minutes of drying.  The permanent press setting usually provides this and will save you energy.
  • When doing multiple loads, try to do loads one after another so the dryer stays warmer.
  • Clean the lint filter in the dryer after each use and consider using a toothbrush to clean the screen periodically to remove buildup from fabric softeners and dryer sheets.
  • Try and sort your clothes by similar thicknesses so that thin items can be dried quickly without being over heated.
  • Try to annually clean your exhaust system and outside shutter to maintain good air flow.
