Hot Water Tanks

Here are some hot water savings tips:

  • Common default factory temperature settings are 60oC (140oF) or higher.  This is hot enough to cause scalding so consider lowering the temperature.  Lowering the temperature to around 50oC (120oF) can reduce energy use by approximately 10%.
  • Annually, drain the sediment from the bottom of the tank.
  • Wrapping the hot water tank with an insulation blanket (available as a kit or separately at most hardware stores) to reduce heat loss.  Adding insulation to the hot water line leaving your tank will help with heat loss.
